NNew York Fashion Week came to a close on Thursday, but before the cat walked its last, ADANAI caught up with one of the newest and most fashionable faces spinning in the city. After playing gigs at the Alisha Trimble S/S Show, the launch of Lilly Ghalichi’s fine jewelry line for Avitan and Crystal Kodada’s luxury handbag launch, the sassy diva shows no signs of slowing her roll.
ADANAI: Explain the name DJ Rosé?
DJ Rosé: Nicole Rose Stillings a/k/a DJ Rosé – a play on my middle name and my favorite fine wine.
What’s your style of play?
I love all types of music but I play for the people. Different vibes for different venues. Overall, my style has been dubbed as “sexy.” Female vocal driven, jazzy and soulful, deep house and lots of bass.
How did you get started as a DJ?
I can honestly say I traded in my therapist for a set of turntables. Four years ago, my parents told me to get a hobby. So, my father bought me a full set up for my apartment and I started mixing music…and pissing off neighbors. I might even be better at the latter…
Where do you gig?
I play regular residencies in New York City and The Hamptons.
What’s on the docket?
I’m gearing up for an exciting opening in Miami this fall/winter and a special surprise hotel opening for New Year’s Eve in the Caribbean… stay tuned!
What’s the DJ Rosé motto?
Look like a lady, mix like a boss.
You have played at several special celebrity events recently. What was your favorite?
Super tough! They’ve all been a blast. Most recently, it’s a tie between Jill Zarin’s Annual Ladies Luxury Luncheon and Aston Martin’s 100th Year Anniversary in The Hamptons. Jill is a fun one – that diva loves the disco! And, Aston Martin was just gorgeous – a tie between the crowd and the cars. I’ll be launching a mixtape from that event shortly.
How would you define your fashion style?
It intertwines with my style of music. I aim to please all the senses. My stylist, Ilana Brafman, terms it “hippie chic with a sexy twist.”
What other cities and clubs inspire you?
I’m super excited to have some amazing main acts lined up with my mentor, Eric Leeds, this fall [in NYC]! And also honored to be heading back to my hometown St. Louis for the first time next month to play the Fashion Fund Gala hosted by Derek Blasberg and Karlie Kloss.
Any funny stuff from the booth?
The best is when I look down and my friends are Shazam-ing me when they’re right next to the booth. Hi! I’m right here!
Where do we find you next?
I’m at Beautique every Tuesday and Fig & Olive Meatpacking every Wednesday.
