AArt Basel in Miami Beach. July 4th in Las Vegas. Formula One weekend in Monaco. Closing weekend in Ibiza. What do they all have in common? These are some of the best party weekends across the globe every year. If you follow legendary partiers like Dan Bilzerian or Miami party girl Julz on Instagram you will see these destinations on their annual circuit. It’s kind of crazy to say that any weekend in New York is better than any other in terms of partying but Fall New York Fashion Week is like no other. The formula is pretty simple. Thousands of models, fashionistas and those that follow them looking to see and be seen. The Hamptons are a wrap and everyone wants to kick off the fall party season right. New and old clubs and bars vie to get noticed that weekend by landing a big party or getting a good celebrity drop in. Big name DJs quietly come to town and drop mini-sets all over town. Magazines, international fashion houses and liquor brands host very high end invite only parties. And last, the bottle buyers up their budget for the weekend, as this is the time to step it up for that extra large bottle of Dom. Mix all of this up and you get a party weekend like no other.
This year new nightlife spots Nacional and Rumpus Room were all the talk. If you know someone that is able to get into Richie Akiva (1Oak, Up and Down) backed Nacional then you are too cool to be reading this article. Nacional is in the old Butter space and if he can recreate Butter Mondays every night, Akiva will have a winner. Having friends like Rihanna (friend with benefit?), Miley Cyrus and Leonardo DiCaprio hanging out there will help too.
Rumpus Room is in the old Sapphire Lounge space down on Eldridge Street. If you are old enough to remember how hot Sapphire used to get (and you didn’t have to buy a bottle!) then you will be excited for Rumpus Room.
There is also one overlooked aspect of the weekend that takes it to a new level – it’s the opening weekend of the NFL season. While the hard-core fashion week folks are actually going to shows, there are even more options to party. Getting one of the five banquets at Bounce on opening weekend is almost as hard as getting the DJ table at 1Oak. On the Sunday of NYFW, there was definitely a subset of focused revelers who did the Sunday Bounce thing before heading to the more traditional NYFW Sunday destinations like PhD and Lavo.
While Art Basel in Miami is more known for its party prowess, Fall NYFW gives it a run for its money – what do you think?
