AAt first glance, E11EVEN Miami looks like every club kid’s nirvana: you don’t have to go home and you can stay here. The “24-hour nightclub and dayclub” opening in January ’14 evokes thoughts of Marquee Las Vegas. Finally a proper Las Vegas style large-scale pool party in Miami. However, a careful look at the website leads you to another conclusion.Early press on the new $40 million adult Disneyland describes E11EVEN’s world-class sound system, a hydraulic stage, six full service bars, top-notch food and Cirque du Soleil inspired performers. Dayclub specs include TVs for sports viewing. In other words, one could party all night, grab some brunch and hang out for the football games.
Forget Marquee Las Vegas, this sounds like some sort of crazy hybrid of LIV Miami, New York’s legendary cabaret club The Box and Bounce, the high-octane New York sports bar that’s turned NFL football into an excuse to buy bottles. With a retractable rooftop so as to prevent Vitamin D deficiency amongst the real troopers, E11EVEN seems perfectly befitting of Miami. Seems too good to be true.
A closer look at the website and this Miami City Social write-up provide some evidence that E11EVEN may take the entertainment possibilities a tad further. Here are a few indicators:
- On the website, there is a place to apply for jobs. The list includes normal nightclub positions for doormen, cocktail waitresses, DJs and security. It also includes a “performance artist” position, which must be for the Cirque du Soleil contortionists. So far, so good. The position that is a head scratcher though is “Entertainer (Independent Contractor).” Take one guess what that job is.
- E11ELEVEN touts 32 private VIP rooms equipped with flat screens, iPads and phone chargers. Typically, VIP areas in nightclubs or dayclubs are public and high profile – tables near the dance floor or centrally located bungalows by the pool. What kind of partying happens in a closed off VIP room with a TV?
- VIPs can go directly to a their private room through a secret side entrance without anyone in the club seeing them. What kind of club does someone patronize where they would like to go unseen?
- Hours of operation: 24/7 – what kind of revelry is happening at 10am on a Wednesday?
- A group of people affiliated with Scores and the Hustler Club own the 25,000-square-foot Downtown Miami space.
- Oh and then there is this video.
While nothing special now, when Spearmint Rhino Las Vegas first opened in 1999 it was a game changer.
In 1999, Spearmint Rhino Las Vegas opened and it flipped the gentlemen’s club experience on its head. In a manner similar to that anticipated of E11EVEN, the Rhino was a nightclub first, strip club second. While it has now evolved into a more traditional strip club, for a period it had an energy quite unique.
Groups of girls interested in a fun night out once championed the Rhino. Lap dances taking place in the corner phased no one because the party atmosphere closely enough mirrored any other nightclub. Nothing breaks the ice like a witty remark about the lap dance happening five feet to the left.
Following Rhino’s suit, since then several strip clubs have created nights where they have promoted themselves as quasi-nightclubs to the masses by hiring name DJs/celebs and encouraging more traditional partiers to come through. Monday nights at King of Diamonds in Miami and Magic City in Atlanta are probably the most (in)famous for this approach. it doesn’t take much reading in-between the lines to recognize the crew behind E11EVEN is looking to go all-in on the nightclub/strip club combination.
